Conducting Effective Investigation Interviews - Code EI10-05
 


This interactive full day workshop will provide investigators with a solid understanding of interviewing techniques for dealing with all kinds of interviewees including victims, minors, subjects under investigation and third party witnesses who may be uncooperative, overzealous, extremely nervous and everything in between. Interviewing techniques will be covered and topics including building rapport with interviewees, assessing credibility, observing non-verbal communication, note taking during interviews, audio or video taping interviews and many other important topics. Participants will be actively involved in this workshop with various challenges and role plays and will have an opportunity for feedback and to see themselves as others do through video tape review of their interviews. This will be a energetic and enjoyable learning experience limited to six participants and facilitated by Dean Benard.

Investigating Allegations of Sexual Abuse - Code SA10-06 

This intensive full day workshop is geared at providing attendees with comprehensive instruction on all aspects of investigating sexual abuse. We will discuss various forms of sexual misconduct allegations including harassment,   inappropriate touching, boundary violations that may lead to sexual abuse allegations and inappropriate relationships. Participants will learn techniques and processes for overall case management, managing the relationship with victims and families, interviewing victims and other witnesses, dealing with false allegations, sourcing information and collaborating with other agencies such as the Police. This workshop is limited to six participants and will be facilitated by Dean Benard.

Investigation Case Management - Code CM10-01

This one hour session will cover an important aspect of investigations practise; staying organized! All too often investigators can become overwhelmed with high caseloads and multiple demands on their time. This webinar will focus on providing tips and practical processes to successfully manage case work both within a given case and between multiple cases. We will discuss methods for staying on top of your caseload, meeting multiple deadlines and keeping track of the small details that if overlooked can become a serious problem down the road.

Investigation Report Writing - Code RW10-02

The written report is the reflection of the fruits of an investigation and is arguably the most scrutinized document by all involved parties to an investigation and any subsequent hearing. This session will look at different types of investigative reports and consider factors such as maintaining neutrality in report writing and ensuring the report is complete accurate and clear for the readers. We will examine the potential for concerns being raised about bias or impropriety and discuss ways to ensure our reports guard against such arguments. This session is a must for new and seasoned investigators.
